Grade Calculator

Calculate your weighted average course grade.

Enter your assignments/categories, their weight (%), and your score (%).

Add assignment/category details and click calculate.

Ensure total weight adds up to 100% for an accurate final grade calculation. This calculator assumes scores are percentages (out of 100).

Calculating Your Course Grade

Most courses calculate your final grade based on the weighted average of different components like homework, quizzes, midterms, final exams, and participation. Each component contributes a certain percentage to the final grade. This calculator helps you determine your overall course grade based on these weights and your scores.

How to Use

  1. For each graded component or category (e.g., "Homework", "Midterm Exam", "Final Project"), create a row using the "Add Item" button.
  2. Enter a descriptive Name for the item (optional but helpful).
  3. Enter the Weight (%) that this item contributes to the final grade (e.g., Homework might be 20%).
  4. Enter your Score (%) received for that item (e.g., 85 for 85%). If you have multiple scores within a category (like several homework assignments), calculate the average score for that category first and enter it here.
  5. Add rows for all components that contribute to your grade.
  6. Click "Calculate Overall Grade".

The calculator will display the total weight entered (ensure it sums to 100%!), your overall weighted score percentage, and potentially the corresponding letter grade based on a standard scale.

Weighted Average Formula

The overall grade is calculated as:

Overall Grade % = Σ ( Scorei * (Weighti / 100) )

Where:

  • Σ represents the sum across all items.
  • Scorei is the percentage score for item 'i'.
  • Weighti is the percentage weight for item 'i'.

It's crucial that the sum of all weights entered equals 100% for the final percentage to be accurate.

Applications

Track your progress throughout a course, estimate the score needed on remaining assignments to achieve a target grade, or verify your final calculated grade.
