The Chinese Gender Predictor is said to be based on an ancient chart discovered in a royal tomb near Beijing over 700 years ago. Legend claims it can predict a baby's gender based on two factors: the mother's **lunar age** at the time of conception and the **lunar month** of conception.

How It Supposedly Works (and How This Calculator Estimates It)

  1. Mother's Lunar Age:** The Chinese lunar calendar traditionally considers a person to be one year old at birth and adds another year at the Chinese New Year. This calculator approximates lunar age by adding 1 year to the mother's Gregorian age at conception (a simplification).
  2. Lunar Month of Conception:** The Chinese lunar calendar months do not align perfectly with Gregorian months. This calculator uses the Gregorian conception month as an approximation for the lunar month.
  3. The Chart:** The calculator then uses a digital representation of the legendary chart, which cross-references the mother's lunar age (rows) with the lunar month of conception (columns) to find a predicted gender (Boy or Girl).

How to Use This Calculator

  2. Enter the estimated **Date of Conception**. If unsure, you can estimate it as approximately 14 days after the first day of the mother's last menstrual period.
